Involved Citizens Initiate HebronTexasNews.com

The development of the HebronTexasNews.com web site is a natural progression by David Loerwald and Jane Slattery in their continued service to our community. David, a State Farm Agent and a good neighbor in our community, has served as an advocate for our area in city, county and school district issues for many years. He has been recognized by LISD and the City of Carrollton as a community leader who works for our citizens and has helped establish the “ Hebron” identity for our area. David was awarded a Texas PTA Life Membership for his contributions to Arbor Creek Middle School. Jane Slattery has served our community and schools for many years. She served on five school PTA boards including president at two schools and was awarded the Texas PTA Life Membership for her service at Polser Elementary and the Texas PTA Extended Life Membership for her contributions to Hebron High School. She was also awarded the Exemplary Volunteer Service Award and the Golden Apple Award by LISD for her contributions to our schools and community.

Both David and Jane have been active with community organizations for many years. After the opening of Arbor Creek Middle School was delayed due to an uncooperative working relationship between the City of Carrollton and Lewisville ISD, David Loerwald formed the North Carrollton Community and Education Council in 1995 to address this and other community issues. Jane Slattery soon joined David and other concerned citizens to work on issues affecting our area. This organization later became the Hebron Community Alliance and throughout the years achieved many accomplishments to improve our community:

  • Worked with LISD and City of Carrollton and developers to improve the speed of school construction and availability of sites.
  • Negotiated with the City of Carrollton to waive the $100,000 impact fee it charged LISD to build schools (this fee was not assessed for CFBISD schools).
  • Established a joint use agreement with LISD so that students in LISD schools within Carrollton could play in city sports leagues. Prior to this the city required students to attend CFBISD school in order to play.
  • Persuaded LISD to name our area high school Hebron instead of Eastside or Westview as LISD suggested. The word Hebron means alliance and is appropriate for this area. At one time, almost the entire area was part of unincorporated Hebron.
  • Initiated and hosted a community athletic league to offer basketball and volleyball to area youth.
  • Hosted groundbreaking and ribbon cutting ceremonies for schools in our area to promote community involvement and support the working relationship between LISD and area cities.
  • Awarded and administered college scholarships for graduating seniors.
  • Established Hebron Community Alliance to promote commerce and involvement.
  • Worked with Denton County to realign precinct lines so voters residing in LISD did not have to vote at two different locations for city and school district elections.
  • Hosted luncheons with area developers to promote communication and community input regarding quality of life issues.
  • Hosted golf tournament to raise money for scholarships.
  • Promoted flag football program in partnership with YMCA.
  • Hosted luncheons for new teachers, city officials and business owners.
  • Provided voter information and candidate profiles.
  • Established charter brick program for Hebron High School.

David and Jane continue their efforts toward promoting community involvement, focusing on our education system and promoting commerce in our area by establishing HebronTexasNews.com.
